Locality Brewing “Journey of the Honey Lager” Tour

As part of Fair Week, Locality Brewing would like to take you on a “field to glass” journey of their Honey Lager, on July 14, 2022!

Locality named their first ever beer ‘THANKYOU’. Why? This dream was realized the hard way, right here on the unceded territories of Kwantlen, Matsqui, Katzie and Semiahmoo First Nations by many talented local people.

The “Journey of the Honey Lager” tour will be no ordinary brewery tour, as it will happen at one of the only breweries in North America where you are able to take the complete journey on foot.

The lands on which we work are a mixture of farmable fields and natural terrain including 200-year-old Evergreens and edible wild plant varieties. Canadian farmers have had a very difficult few years and we are not immune to heat domes and excessively wet springs here in the Fraser Valley. It’s been a soggy 10 months that has impacted all of us, including the soil and plants.

Guided Tours – July 12, 2022 (Tickets Required)

Tickets are extremely limited!

The Journey includes:

  • a 16 oz beer for the walk
  • forest walk
  • barley talk
  • hopyard stroll
  • beeyard chat
  • malthouse
  • brewhouse

The tour will start by filling your glass with your favourite beer from Locality’s tap room.

First stop are the fields, where you can discover the Spring barley in its first month of growth, and the Fall rye crop in its last month.

Next we will check out the hop bines that are now reaching their peak heights. You will learn about the hop varieties that farmers in Canada can grow, and the divergence with what hop varieties breweries want and are willing to pay a premium for.

Next you will walk to Locality’s honeybees, where you will learn about the different flavours that honey can take on through wildflower pollen and nectar collection.

You will end your tour in the malt house and brewery. You will learn how and why barley must go through the process of malting. And finaly, you will see the brew house where the magic of fermentation takes place.

Finish your tour out at the picnic area, try a variety of beers and have a picnic basket!

Locality Brewing is so excited to share this story of the “Journey of the Honey Lager” with you.
